Separation anxiety on going DD now 10

Has anyone else had to deal with separation anxiety in their child?
I am at the point of seeking professional help for my DD aged 10 as we battle this issue.
Has anyone successfully taught their child coping mechanisms that have worked?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Had support from an educational psychologist for school refusal that turned out to be related to separation anxiety. She was excellent.

Best of luck.

Thank you so much for your reply. Is an educational psychologist who I need rather than a child psychologist I wonder?!

CAMHS had an 18 month wait list and as it was a problem in school the ed psych was involved straight away.

It wasn't just a problem in school I should say. But got so bad in year 7 that school refusal was the trigger to refer to the psych.

I'm also having problems since the summer with my 8 year old dd. I thought it may have been linked to hormones as she started to develop recently, but it's now becoming a social anxiety. Won't go to anyone's house for a play date or a party. I don't know how to help her so I'm making her an appointment this week with the school councillor. She's meant to be very good.

My dd was physically sick last September time with anxiety. I took her to the doctor who suggested tablets! I didn't take that advice and enrolled her in brownies and a dance class. She's still anxious but is growing in confidence (she went on a brownie camp with a few tears and was in a dance show)

My 7 year old ds has had awful separation anxiety since going back to school. I was considering going to GP for advice as just seems to be getting worse. I would also appreciate any advice on how I can help him if anyone has some useful tips x

Anxiousninny i would recommend brownies or something similar I explained to the leaders and they let me stay for a couple of sessions then I started leaving and coming back 10mins later etc. Now she goes in on her own and is learning new skills. It seem that they are pushing her out of her comfort zone but she doesn't realise it and it's started to show in other areas of school friends etc. It might work for yours. Good luck it's awful to see them crying

I'm also waiting to hear back from brownies hoping to start her and build up her confidence
