Hi I am worried about my 6 year old DS. I feel from a young age he has been different from other children, however as he gets older this is becoming more obvious.

He can't understand jokes what so ever. If anyone jokes with him he will get upset/ cry and sometimes get angry. This makes things difficult with his friends and people tend to wind him up as he gives a reaction.

Temper tantrums are getting harder if things are not they way he expects. He doesn't like change, if we change route to school ect this is a drama.
Also he worries a lot and gets anxious about things that 6 year olds shouldn't worry about, if he makes mistakes this upsets him. He can't be late for school even 2 minutes or he will have a meltdown.

His teacher says he is very social and they don't see a problem but he does struggle to make new friends/ keep friends. He try's hard and loves playing with other kids but he just struggles with social skills, I feel. I notice that he can be very invasive of personal space with his peers and sometimes touching/ cuddling ect. He also talks at people sometimes out of context of conversation.
He is a very loving and caring boy and very bright. His memory is on point and he is great at maths.

I am just worried for him as I don't want my DS to struggle. I'm unsure where to turn to, any advice is appreciated x

It sounds as if it is worth talking to your GP, or maybe school nurse about your concerns. Does the school have a Senco?

Talk to your GP, the teacher and Senco about your concerns. Sounds similar to ds who eventually had a "developmental assessment" after being referred by school and GP for eating and emotional concerns. However when assessed both in the office and observed at school, ds was lovely so the ASD assessors and occupational therapy team (to help with tactile fears) have refused to see him. But did get some advice and at least the assessment details (hugely able in certain areas, less so in others) are on record and available to school.
