Help with ADHD medication.

I was just wondering if anyone could put my mind to rest. I understand everyone is different, different medications, hospitals etc but this just doesn't seem right to me.

Hubby and I both each have a niece with ADHD, or apparently anyway. Hubbies niece had speech problems and classic signs of ADHD, she was finally diagnosed last year, when she came of age. She has daily medication, a support worker, and attends a special school, we are all so incredibly proud of how far she has come, and the difference is immense. She was previously very aggressive, highly strung, short attention span, but now she is polite, caring, interested in crafts, she still has off days, but the difference is huge.

My niece however has a 3 monthly injection, my brother has never attended an appointment, as they always happen when he is at work, and he is told not to bother taking time off. Her behavior is just that of a poorly disciplined child, she is rude, stroppy, attention seeker and compulsive liar, and has pretty much nothing in common symptoms wise with hubbies niece. We also suspect that her mother invents medical conditions of her own that no-one ever sees any evidence of. In case I am just reading too much in to this, has anyone ever heard of ADHD being treated with an injection?

DS has ADHD. I have never EVER heard of medication for ADHD by injection. Has your DN actually got a formal diagnosis? i'm also sceptical as to why your DB will be told not to bother taking time off work for his DD's appointmentHmm who told him this ? CAMHS?

I think your DB needs to be more proactive and get involved with his DD's medical care and definitely take time off work for medical appointments. Diagnosing ADHD is a long processes involving home and school. Im surprised he hasn't been involved in any of this.

She is actually his step daughter, and there have been problems in him being able to be involved with her, in terms of decisions etc. They have 2 sons of their own, but apparently the daughter was diagnosed before they got together, which puts her at the most 6 years old. Which from what hubbies niece has been through wouldn't have happened.

My brother isn't the sort to think someone is lying and simply cannot understand why anyone would lie about something on this scale, so he doesn't question what his being told. I have always looked out for him, hence why I'm trying to figure out for myself if this is all too far fetched.

The main reason I'm asking is that my sister in law is suggesting that their eldest son has some type of autistic spectrum disorder now. If I can be sure that the daughters situation is something to be questioned, then I can most certainly get my brother to not take no for an answer when it comes to his son, and make sure he is informed from a research perspective.

My daughters diagnosis came at age 5. It depends on child's presentation and evidence which health professionals see, as to when the diagnosis is made not age so much.

My son was diagnosed at age 5 too but not medicated until age 6. He doesn't have a support worker or go to a special school, he takes tablets 3 x a day and has sleep medication too.

I have done quite extensive research into adhd and wrote a essay on it last year and I am so a trusted of an adhd charity: I have NEVER heard of medication via injection? Sounds very odd to me x

The thing that got me worrying is this apparent quarterly injection, I understand that how and when a diagnosis is made can be very specific to the case in hand. Personally I think it's a way to try and hide the fact this is all possibly one big lie. If one person could tell me they've even heard of it I would be less worried, but to date no-one has. Thanks everyone for your replies.
