Long family history of mental health probs.
My sister had many probs including E.D's and committed suicide.
I have B.D.D
My 9 year old is a very anxious girl anyway(often has panics)but for the last 6-7 months she has been very distressed and obsessed with her body imageSad
"I'm so fat mommy"
"I'm too fat and ugly for you to speak to me"
"people will laugh at me"
And so it goes on and on ....
She refuses to wear most of her clothes and has a complete hysterical fit over looking fat or any item of clothing that clings to her shape. She has even resorted to wearing her dressing gown over her clothes inside the house and then putting her(baggy) coat on when she goes out.
She always seems to be unhappy and cries at the slightest thing.
She has issues getting changed at school also.
She isn't skinny but she is a very tall ,athletic looking girl.
We are waiting for a referral to child pysch.
Is there any end to this bloody cycle of mental health misery?
Has anyone's child been the same?

Just a thought, but I read your post and immediately wondered if your child was being bullied. I am not saying she is but it sounds that you are assuming that she has or will have mental health problems and not looking for other possible explanations.

Have you approached the school to get some feedback from them? Have you asked your DD if people ARE laughing at her?

I do not think she is being bullied(i hope not)
I have spoken to her teacher so she is aware.
The thing is that the things she says are typical Body dysmorhic statements.
"When i look in the mirror i look odd ,mommy"
Today she came home very upset as they had to measure themselves in class, height, width(some history thing)and she said she didn't want to but had to and now she knows how fat she isSad

Meant to add that the therapist i was seeing also agreed that her behaviour is worrying.

Sorry to hear that your DD is suffering & also for the loss & difficulties you have had to face yourself.

Has your DD actually been referred or are you waiting for another party to refer her? I know in our area apparantly GP referrals to CAMHS/ psychiatry are prioritised. Hope she gets some help soon x

My daughter is also waiting for a CAMH appt. She was referred in Feb and there is a 10month wait! Suggested I go back to GP who can provide additional info and may speed up appt
