Collected the girls today but I am suspicious about the lavendar pekin. S(he) is bossing the others around like nobody's business and has a noticeable comb compared to the other pekin (same age about 12 weeks). Lady at the farm said she doesn't really know but that we can swap if she turns out to be a boy.

How would I know if s(he)s a boy? I know its probably a stupid question!

When we were choosing ours, the lady showed us the difference in combs between boys and girls. Boys combs are much more prominent at a younger age - bigger and redder. It was really obvious in 8-10w old Orps and Sussex though I'm not sure about Pekins.

How are you enjoying them?

by this age, you should be able to tell by the combs. pekin hens combs are much smaller and less prominent. Look at the neck feathers (hackles) and tail feathers. cockerels have long thin pointed feathers on neck and tail. Compare the two birds next to each other. you should be able to spot differences. Ive reared enough pekins to realise if its different, its sadly, probably a cockerel (no matter how much you hope!!). This said, if they are different colours, there may be a general size difference, but combs and feathers will tell it.
How badly do you not want a cockerel? There is a good chance you will get attached, and we all have a pretty good idea what will happen to it if you send it back!
