Still broody...

One of my girls is still broody, even though I've been dunking her bits in cool water since Friday, pushing her out of the Eglu, locking the door when the others have laid, putting the roosting bars over the nest at night (she's learnt to move them off, clever little mare).
What can I do? I'm slightly panicking as due to go away for half term and leaving my parents to pop in and out and top up food etc, but obviously can't expect them to keep shoving her off the nest all day.
How long will this go on for? Should I keep dunking her belly? And will she get better when the hot weather cools down?
Will she starve herself and forget to drink?
Any help gratefully received...

They usually get up and eat and drink, so don't worry overly. The only thing I can reccommend is to actually put some eggs under her to hatch, (eBay) or just give her some rubber or infertile eggs. She will eventually give it up. It will just be a waiting game. Once they get eggs, they should be pretty much programmed to give up after the allotted time if nothing hatches.

We always put ours in a wire mesh cat carrier for 24/48 hours, with food and water, and put it close to the other hens, in an airy light place, but up on bricks, so that the air circulates all round. That has always worked for us. Unfortunately, a particularly stubborn broody can starve herself. The hot weather does make it worse.

I feel your pain! I thought I'd broken my broody Sussex after a few days of ice cubes under her, roosting bars over nest, etc, but now she's at it again.
She does come off to eat, drink, poo etc, though.

My girls often go broody - I shove them off to feed/drink twice a day but just let them get on with it.

Yep, coming round to the idea that I might have to let her get through it. My daughter has a rubber eggg that she takes great delight in dropping, so I might pinch that and put it in the nest. Hen is just so determined to get back on the nest that I'm starting to feel cruel shooing her off. Has been more than a week...
