Peking bantams? Sharing half of a huge guineapig run?

Two questions really. Has anyone got or have experience of peking bantams?
And would it work having them (divided off) and sharing half of our walk in guineapig run do you think? (It's quite big.)
We chose bantams because a friend said they aren't "flighty".
I'm wondering about their egg laying abilities too.
Any other ideas? Thank you

can't see why not..... as long as it is big enough.

They are resonable layers, but obviously their eggs are tiny - I use 2 of their eggs to one large chickens egg.

What colour do you have? We have lavenders.

Oh and they are quite good broodies!

Thanks! I imagined no one had bantams.
I remeber the tiny eggs from when I was a child.

Lavender- i'll look them up- we haven't actually got any yet, but they're what we're thinking of.
Someone local has some too, but not sure what colours.
I like these speckled type

I think they are called cuckoo ones....

Good Luck

Thanks; it's quite exciting- we've been talking about chickens for ages, the dc's are really longing for them.

But I meant to say, we have a lurcher , and then by mistake(recue) acquired a terrier, who , although very small, thinks we're getting them for a nice treaty dinner, so that worries me a bit too...
He killed a pheasant bigger than him ( well, it was horrendous, because I had to finish it off, horrible, am very squeamish, but couldn't bear it suffering)
Sorry tmi

northern-chickens would peck at your pig every chance they got and, in general, make it's life miserable so the division would have to be solid and not chicken wire or chain link, etc.

I have a friend who keeps chooks and a guinea together. I am going to get some banties when I have finally merged my 2 flocks.
so0rry pointless rambling.

northernrefugee39 · 16/05/2009 11:42

Thanks thesock - a friend of mine has them loose in the garden all together during the day, and then in hutches at night.
I've read that bantams also don't attempt to get out of something higher than 2ft.

Our run is huge, and the guineas tend to stay in one area, even when we open up the other side. They like their security!

Isenhart, have you heard of chickens (bantams) pecking guineapigs?
Do you have them?
All the hearsay evidence seems to point to the opposite- people's own experiences etc...

We have 6 guineas- it's not really fair to keep them alone as they're group animals.

Yes and yes-is why I said to keep a solid division. Perhaps a difference is that your friend has her's loose in the garden together rather than caged. I was also picturing one pig with a bunch of chickens and didn't think this was going to be much fun for the pig-six pigs sounds more doable. Safety in numbers, you know!
