Eglu Cube - anyone considering getting rid?

Just wondered if anyone has one they want rid of and why you don't like/need it anymore

DH and I are searching in vain and may buy one (for a fair price obv) - DH is far too impatient to order one from Omlet after months of searching for his perfect hen house

(Sorry not posted this in wanted etc btw - I don't have CAT as don't have a credit card. Hopefully this won't offend anyone)

you could try Ebay you might be lucky and get a bargain but even secondhand ones are still quite expensive on there.

I've been looking and none coming up ...think we missed one last week - DH keeps changing his criteria!

It would seem that (to a certain extent) he will afford whatever necessary to keep happy hens etc, but space is an issue in our garden and some of the coops are too massive, whilst others seem too small.

I haven't even got chickens and I look for eglu's on ebay coz I think they look great, how sad am I! Will get chickens after the rabbits have hopped off to the great warren in the sky. They are only 4 so could have several years to wait yet!

Eglu do 2nd hand/reconditioned cubes for £50 off the RRP.

have a look on the omlet forum, they hav a fopr sale bit.

bramblebooks · 23/02/2009 13:05

I am currently in the same position as you, but think I'll build a walk in run to put my eglu in instead!!

Cubes and eglus do seem to hold their value for the 2nd hand market. Ask on the omlet forum, like sockmonster said, they have an eglu/cube wanted section too.

Washersaurus · 23/02/2009 20:38

Thank you all, I will take a look on the Omlet forum

I would love to have a walk in run but our garden is very long, but fairly narrow so and most we've seen are just too big for our space

DH has just informed me he has compiled a comparison spreadsheet showing value per square foot of various coops to think I was convinced he was busy at work!!

Oh I have just re read the above and how blushing am I ?

I think it was only days later that I ordered my recon!

You will need space around the sides of a cube due to pull out poo trays, pull out handle for door and access to nest box.

Enjoy Omlet.

Well..........DH actually ordered one of these instead after reassessing available space and sacrificing one of his raised veggie beds.

I just hope it is OK!

That looks really nice, how many birds you thinking of, i think that would be great for 4.
next comes the really fun bit, filling it, I can thoroughly recommend getting ex batts if you fancy that, it is very rewarding.

Washersaurus · 28/02/2009 19:25

Well we only want 3 or 4 hens but wanted them to have plenty of space. The plan is they can free range in the veggie patch area of the garden as all wood chipped; DH is going to put some low hurdles or something around the raised beds to protect them. Although I think he will grow a little patch of brassicas especially for the chickens

thesockmonsterofdoom · 28/02/2009 19:38

what are brassicas?????
sound like chicken heaven.

Washersaurus · 28/02/2009 21:56

Y'know like cabbage and sprouts and stuff...they need lots of greens don't they as won't be on grass?
