What kitchen scraps do you save for your hens and what do you keep them in?

I have a bowl in the kitchen that i throw porridge, carrot peelings, any greens, scraps of bread and pasta into. The bowl is not big enough so i need something else, maybe with a lid. Anyone use something really inventive to store scraps.

What other left over treats do your hens enjoy?

Mine love the leftover spag bol- they slurp up the spag as if it is worms. Yummy. I just use any old bowls or saucepans then put them in the dishwasher. I take stuff to them after each meal, I don't leave it lying around the kitchen.

I only have 2 hens and they just get the scraps each day, or saved in a bowl overnight. I usually just throw the food down to them though, don't put the bowl down.
Have tried potato & carrot peelings but they ignored - will try the m/waving.
Never thought of fruit cores, and will get some apples from my parents - they have a shed full that aren't going to get eaten before they go too soft.

Eggshells - cook & crush? enlighten me.

right, so mine are on layer pellets, so sounds like I don't need to go to the egg trouble.

Mum and dad have orchard, one tree (can't remember the type - but an eater) produces hundreds of apples and while they really should take half off in June mum has never brought herself to do it. Hence LOTS of apples, I think they have 12 fruit boxes just piled full of them. DS2 loves them and they are the perfect size for him (4/5 bites) but he won't get through them all.
On top of those they have more eaters, and bakers, and frozen in the freezer. Apples coming out of their ears

yes I compost them - well they go in the council brown compost bag and they compost them.
I did used to put them in our compost but we found they would still be there when the compost was ready, so I switched them to the brown bags.

Pretty much anything that doesn't get eaten . Peelings, egg shells (don't bother cooking or crushing them), leftovers including meat/fish (though not chicken for obvious reasons), used teabags. We've got a compost bucket that we got from Lakeland a few years ago and when it's full we take it outside and out it in a special place specifically for this. They lap it all up, especially the meaty products!

Do they really eat tea bags? I put mine down the waste disposal, although I shouldn't really, but if they are alright for the chooks, I'll put them in the scraps!
