Do you vaccinate your hens?

When I buy POL from the breeders then they are but I've never bothered with any reared at home.

Does anyone get their chicks vaccinated? Or don't bother because you'll soon be eating them?.

we have not thought of vaccinating... we only have four so I would be interested to hear what others think.

Have not one clue about chickens' vaccination needs, but just had to pop in and say, of all the cliques on MN, the chicken coop is the one I most want to join. Mmmm, Eglus and those lovely fat hens with feathery legs.

Nope, never. But I have been reading about coccidiosis. Apparently you can buy a chick crumb that contains an anti-coccidstat. Will try.

In the article in this months Smallholder mag the chicken expert says he puts Cider Vinegar in their drinking water. (10ml per litre) as it controls internal parasites and is good for their digestion. Might try that too.

(Tomorrow is Lulu's hatch day!!)

Thanks mehgalegs, that's very useful. I don't really have plans to start jabbing chicks unless DEFRA make me!

Good luck lulu!

I guess that if you were breeding hens to sell as layers or meat birds to sell to the public they would have to be vaccinated.

Dare I go and look on PP?

I like the cider vinegar tip, thanks Mehga
