Who'd like to help Wellies&Pyjamas build a chick brooder from scratch by Saturday?

Do come and judge offer your thoughts on my plan...

I have a large plastic container (about 45 x 25 cm) which I will put inside a tall polystyrene box with lid. I'll put wood shaving and/or shredded paper inside plastic box. And I will somehow link a light bulb to come down through the lid to keep them warm. I'll be keeping the whole lot inside the house since we had another snowfall last night, and the original plan of keeping them in the garage is not that practical any more.

Sound OK?

This is our first batch of eggs using the incubator and DH is away working so I can't let --him- make the mistake himself I must build this myself. Eggs are due to hatch on Saturday.

All joking aside, I would really appreciate any advice and ideas on this. TIA

yeah see, I totally don't get that about house-owning here. In Oz, either it's your house, and you make the rules, or it ain't.

C'mon, Wellies, what's your excuse???

LilRedWG · 05/04/2008 11:03

There will be no wine We will have DCs in tow, so you're not missing out too much. Make sure you let us all know when you make it over to Blighty and we'll have a piss meet up!

WelliesAndPyjamas · 05/04/2008 11:04

yes, need to get my cute little ass off MN and go outside to do some work. That'd be a good first move (with a break every 5 mins to check chick progress obviously!).

don't worry Otter, I'll get my chickens one day. oh yes I will

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 05/04/2008 11:06

bye then Wellies. We'll hardly have any fun without you on Monday at all, I promise!

LilRedWG · 05/04/2008 11:06

'Tis better here than in the US. My sister got told off by the Residents' Association for flying an Union Flag when my mum was visiting on her birthday. Apparently, it's not allowed!

We were told the same when we lived in apartments in the States too - if it's the US flag, you cannot display it. Wierd!

WelliesAndPyjamas · 05/04/2008 11:06

my excuse = baby chicks (possibly, maybe, hopefully)

DH working in UK for 2 months so am also on livestock and veg planting duty.

It's all very feeble really, isn't it.

Actually, just looking at your website and may be interested in the apartment - when's the best time to go there for a few days on the beach?

WelliesAndPyjamas · 05/04/2008 11:18

Look away

It depends on how hot and busy you like it

The second half of June, July and August are stinking hot (lush!) but really busy on the main beach. If you hire a car you can find some quieter beaches though. May, the start of June, and September are quieter and still lovely and warm.

And did I tell you about the nudist beach around the bay....

holy COW

Wellies, dh and I are hatching plans for our escape back home atm - think I shall try and persuade him we need to come via you! ooooohhhh now THAT's exciting!!!!!

LilRedWG · 05/04/2008 11:20

WAP - I'd love to make it September, but need to see if I can convince DH that we can afford it (we can't). I'll get in touch soon.

LilRedWG · 05/04/2008 11:20

Where do I find the cheapest flights from Birmingham to Split?

PhDlifeNeedsaNewLife · 05/04/2008 11:21

THERE'S A NUDIST BEACH????

WelliesAndPyjamas · 05/04/2008 11:22

COOOOOOOL! Phd, that would be so fantastic! Do it! Do it! Do it!

No problem, lilred. You'd be welcome any time. And if you did come, I'd make sure I was the one to go down and get everything ready for you there so I can meet you and we can drink wine in the sun
