I am I’ll after eating one of my hen’s eggs? Would it be worms?

I eat eggs from my girls quite regularly and never had a problem before. I have 4 hens, and I’ve built a massive run for them so they are quite happy but I will admit I am behind on their worming. I know it’s bad.. I did buy the verlex stuff but we’ve had a lot going on and it got forgotten. Now I feel terribly ill (diarrhoea, sore stomach, temp, sore muscles, headache). Is it connected to the egg?

Try a covid test that’s some of the symptoms of omricon.

That’s first thing I did. I have to do a PCR weekly for work and that came back today negative. Same with the lacteral flow test I did today

I shouldn't think so, no.

beattieedny · 11/04/2022 17:06

I mean, it sounds like a fairly bog standard bug

BeforeGodAndAllTheFish · 11/04/2022 17:08

Worms from chicken dont infect humans. Even if you actually found a worm in an egg, it is yucky but not harmful.

However, you've described the symptoms of salmonella exactly.

Darley368 · 11/04/2022 17:09

Yes salmonella was my thought. Are your chickens vaccinated?

Feelingpoorly123 · 11/04/2022 17:12

Ok. Thanks guys.. that is reassuring. My biggest concern was that I’ve recently given eggs to both my neighbours and a friend so would feel terrible if I made anyone ill. salmonella.. that’s interesting! I don’t actually eat any meat or fish or even diary. Just eggs from my chickens.

I’m not sure. They were rescued from a factory farm.

All UK chickers are vaccinated at two days old, wherever they are hatched.

elliesmummy19 · 11/04/2022 17:17

Norovirus is doing the rounds at the moment. It sounds like that.

beattieedny · 11/04/2022 17:17

Chickens, not chickers!
It's all but impossible to catch salmonella from hen eggs. Most likely a bug, or, if it is a food poisoning, from uncooked meat, badly chilled carb or unwashed salads etc.

CarmenThePanda · 11/04/2022 17:19

You can sometimes still get salmonella from UK eggs.

User478 · 11/04/2022 17:21

Do your hens lay kindereggs?

Kinder eggs have been recalled.

@Feelingpoorly123

Kinder eggs are being recalled and I'm guessing that's the joke a poster was making

Hawkins001 · 11/04/2022 17:45

Hope you feel better soon

BlanketsBanned · 11/04/2022 17:50

If it continues you should call your dr, salmonella is a notifable illnesses. Bacteria can also pass from the mum hen, how long was it until you felt ill.

Purebred chickens bred by small breeders generally aren't vaccinated
