Hi there,

I'm a fairly new chicken keeper - we've had our ex-bats for about four months. One of ours has been under the weather for the last few weeks - diarrhoea and hunching up with her feathers puffed up.

A chicken keeping friend of mind thought it might be coccidiosis so they were on Harkers for just over a week but that didn't help, so I'm currently trying Flubenvet - we're on about day 4 and I haven't noticed any improvement.

Other other four are absolutely fine so whatever it is it doesn't seem to be spreading through the flock.

Any ideas? Should I finish the course of Flubenvet and see if she's any better or take her to the vet now?

Any advice most appreciated! Thank you Smile

Take her to the vet now. They are prey animals so when they show pain they're fairly far gone.
It could be sour croup or even a stuck egg - there are a lot of possibilities so you really need an experienced chicken vet to take a look. Fingers crossed it's fixable with some antibiotics or something x

I never managed to cure a chicken... by the time they look like this, it can be too late.
It could be so many things and most vets don't know anything about chickens.

Could be egg bound. My vets have always been brilliant with my chooks and I’ve saved a couple with a dose of antibiotics. With ex batts they are not bred for longevity but to lay eggs, structurally they’re not always put together very well and can be prone to being egg bound. Vet can check and give a good clear out, antibiotics and an injection to stop the lying process to give them a break and recover, or humanely put to sleep. Good luck

I agree, take her to a vet, preferrably one who knows about chickens if you can find one.

If you can take a stool sample so it can be checked for coccidiosis.
