Omlet eglu (specifically the cube if you can stretch to it)

Expensive but worth it for durability, security, easy to clean and move, and no red mite because it's plastic. They also hold their value well if you ever sell up.

We have a beautiful one from Flytesofancy - a painted Long-legged Maggie's 6 Hen House and the silkies seem happy and secure in that and good to have them off the ground in winter.

We have the run as well which we've covered with tarp atm due to the current laws on avian flu that all runs must be covered even if chickens are pets. Indoors just means a covered run.

Only thing was Flytesoffancy was very popular so had around a 1.5 month delay to make the run when we ordered ours. Was worth the wait but if you need one now won't work.

How many chickens (and what size)? What is your budget?

I have an Eglu, which I love, but they are expensive, even second hand. There are some lovely wooden coops available. I have previously had one from Jim Vyse arks, which was pretty sturdy. If you are getting more than 2 or 3 chickens, then another option is to convert a small shed.

I have chicken coop envy, that's gorgeous! 😍

If you don't want to spend much you could make one.

Chickens literally need a box with a very smooth narrow piece of wood halfway up it as a perch for them to roost on at night. You can make another box for them to lay in, it doesn't have to attached to the coop.

The only absolute must is to rig up a 100% fox proof run - and that's worth spending money on or Mr Fox with be rubbing his paws in glee Shock

Thanks Poppins I love it, this is ours but they are pricey. I used some of the money from last year's cancelled summer holiday, the silkies are worth it.

I have the long legged hobby coop from Flyte so Fancy with the 9ft run. Since chicken lockdown though I’ve swapped the original run for a much bigger one (4mx4m). The 9ft one was fine when they were free ranging but too small for them to be in all day. I really like Flyte so fancy though, there’s loads of husbandry info on their site too. Chickens are not cheap to get set up, but they are lovely!
