Went to give the hens some strawberries today and one isn’t walking well. She is sort of strutting. I am wondering if she has hurt her leg. I can’t see anything on her. Then tonight she was sitting after walking a few steps. They are very hard to catch as they were free range over about an acre of ground.
I had some ex bats before these (who came to live here during lockdown.
Do chickens ever need their nails cut!? Her nails seem long compared to the other two. Otherwise she is eating. And drinking as normal. She has possibly lost a bit of weight.

It can be an injury or a disease. Some neurological diseases cause limping.

A more common cause could be scaly leg mites. If it's that, you'll need to catch her to treat them. Or bumblefoot.

Thanks. Yes I looked up and could be from jumping down which I have seen her do( just from the coop instead of walking down the plank) or bumble foot. I will have a go at getting her today. They are in a decent sized pen .There are about three or four chicken experts in the village so could ask one of them unfortunately our resident vet died earlier in the year. He would give advice and he had had chickens in the past.

Waited until dark then got them out one by one and brought them into the house. It really isn’t easy to tell the difference between three black bantams in the dark with just a head torch.
Of course as I checked them over the one with the sore foot / feet was the last one to come in. Anyway I can’t find anything wrong with her so I wonder if she has just jarred it jumping down instead of coming down the ramp. Her feet look no different to the other two. No swelling no noise when I manipulated them gently. I might keep her in for a bit tomorrow to lessen her area and rest it a bit.
I feel better about it I hate seeing my girls unhappy. I can easily tell them apart in daylight and they are such characters.
