My first chooks are here and I'm thrilled :) they are so cute, Pam laid first egg on day 2, I suspect the other two are not old enough yet. (Pics below)

All is going well but I do have some questions.....

  • when in dust bath they make a chirping noise like a chick, assume this is a good sign?
  • they groom each other but one was a bit over zealous in the dust bath and took a couple of feathers out, should I be worried?
  • how often do you apply nettex/biodri to run hardwood? Once a week?
  • how often do you hose down run hardwood and do you use just water or fairy also? Or another cleaner?

Am giving them bokashi bran with organic pellets and their poo is pretty firm and doesn't smell that much so am relieved as was expecting it to be a lot worse! Hardly smells compared to cat pooh!

Congratulations! They are beautiful! 🐔

I'm still waiting for my coop to be delivered so can't help with you queries, sorry 😐

We have a plastic coop so can't help with the coop questions.
Our chicken makes a little noise when it makes a "chicken hole" in the mud - it's very cute.

Beware they are contortionists!! Ran out many times thinking they had had a stroke or something as lying all twisted with legs upright /to the side /head nearly backwards..
Sunbathing is def a chicken hobby!!

Just browsing this previously undiscovered part of mumsnet. I am thinking of keeping chickens in about 3 years when I finalise my divorce, but I thought I'd say I love the names. I hope all is going well op.

Thanks Grin they are lovely, Margot is especially pretty snd affectionate, the other two not so much... they are very easy to keep, similar to cats, the main investment is the initial outlay to keep them same from foxes
