Plastic or wood

I'm looking at setting up for chickens. I would love to get Omlet but they are very expensive and nothing really available on preloved or eBay. Is there another company that does decent quality plastic coops or is wooden ok. I'm thinking plastic will be much easier to clean and will last longer with little maintenance. I'd appreciate your opinions and photos if you wish!
Thanks 😊 I'm looking at getting about 4 medium sized chickens.

We got an omlet coop second hand and it was worth every penny. The wooden coop was a nightmare for red mite and hard to clean properly.

Thank you so much I was thinking wood would be really hard to clean and yes I'd forgotten about red mite. I like the idea of being able to clean the plastic ones properly. I just need to find one. I was looking at an Omlet go up but with the run they are so expensive!

We got a cube with a run extension second hand for about £400 a few years ago. Ironically we lost the last of our chickens at the start of the year. We are undecided whether to get more, and our usual supplier is completely sold out of hens anyway.

Ahh I'm really sorry you lost all of yours Sad

I don't have chickens but I do have outdoor rabbits. I'd really like a metal hutch but have wooden one (been replaced twice in seven years) and the run has been replaced too. I painted the top of both with wood preserve but the weather destroys them after three years or so. Now have metal run which helps and I think the attached wooden run will just about last until next winter. Hutch may have another two winters in it.

Thanks @pipandmum I think we are definitely going to get plastic. I just think wood gets wet and I know it's harder to get really clean too, thanks for your reply Smile

We bought one recently and think it’s great
It’s recycled plastic

I have wood. I didn’t chose it was just someone couldn’t keep theirs so I got the lot. My friend bought an Omlet and still had red mite. I just clean mine and dust it in the crevices a couple of times a year. We did buy an Omlet green fencing/ netting for a pen after the first year as they were digging up too much of the garden. They don’t include enough poles and it sags and they flew out regularly so we made it smaller and put it across the top joining it with garden plastic wires and pegs. So if you buy the netting buy extra pegs.

We have one of these Green Frog coops with an automatic door. Recycled plastic, expensive (though there are smaller options), extremely sturdy, never had red mite. We've had it for 4 years and never had a problem. At the time I thought 'how much?! ` but I've never regretted it!

I have wood, but I built it myself. I lined the bottom with a piece of lino though, so it's pretty easy to clean.

I know someone with the one sunshinestanley linked to and she says pretty much the same.
