Hi all. Hoping to get chickens this year, and alongside my research I'd like some tales. Whats the best thing about your chickens, and the worst?

Hilarious answers vvvv welcome Grin 🐓

😳 bloody hell, that’s quite extreme!
We have recently bought 4 hens, best thing is just watching them scratching about in the garden. They’re really funny, they make me laugh, like toddlers. Usually in a pack, they’re pretty much always together. The eggs which have just started coming are brilliant.
Worst thing - well you’ll have worked this out for yourself by now, it’s the shit! Just bloody everywhere.
They have a coop and a little hen house but we let them out in the garden as much as possible just because it seems kinder for them, their coop is at the back of the garden and they can’t see us from there. So they come out every day. They’ve been scratching about the garden all day today.
My patio is covered in poo. I’ll dustpan and brush the dry stuff and wash off the wet stuff tonight but still, it attracts flies which is not nice.
We haven’t had any issues with pests as yet but we’ve only had them about 3 months.
We are going to build a little gate to keep them off the patio.

Bought an incubator and hatched 3 of our own (Buff Orpingtons) on 1st June. Then bought some Cream Legbar chicks to supplement since I suspect that 2 BOs are roosters and I am not going to be 'that neighbour'. They spent their first two weeks in a run designed by the kids out of cardboard boxes and are now in the garage practising in their coop. They are affectionate chicks and on top of the chick grit we're giving them a handful of the bountiful weeds around here (nettles and dandelions).
