Eggs without shells

My friend has two chickens and one has started to lay eggs without shells. She asked my advice as I used to keep chickens, but this would have been a question for my dad who has sadly passed away.

My first thought was diet, but as the other chicken is still producing eggs with shells, I'm not sure if this could be the reason. She has kept chickens for several years and never had this before. Any ideas on causes and remedies would be gratefully received.

I’m not a chicken keeper but I was so intrigued by shell-less eggs I Googled them Smile Sounds like there are many possible causes:

It's because of a lack of calcium. It can happen when the birds get old or if they get stressed as then they cant absorb calcium correctly. I use a liquid calcium and D3 mix which you add to their water called Intra Calferol. Some people give crushed oyster shell but then you also have to give them grit. I like putting this stuff in the water as it saves saving more feeders/containers around for the shell and the grit and it works out to be really cost effective as a 1 litre bottle lasts for yonks

I had one which was like this. She just started laying shell-less eggs and it carried on like that. The others were fine. She had plenty of grit and good quality layers pellets.

By breed she was a Ranger.
