Hi,
We have had our girls a few years. They are happy souls who wander around our garden all day and are shut up at night. They like to hide their eggs, so every day is an egg hunt. So anyone with clever ideas to prevent this would be great, but I'm not holding my breath. I assume it's the price you pay for letting them wander.

My main question is ... what breed/S do I have. ? and who is laying which eggs. They are all lovely friendly girls , the only issue so far has been the black one getting broody for what seemed like months.. other than that , I would recommend chicken keeping for anyone with the space and inclination.

The two at the back are laying the blue eggs

CMOTDibbler · 25/03/2019 15:15

I agree - and I'd say the black one is laying the dark brown egg

I can't see closely enough but usually the colour of the hens' earlobes correspond to the colour of the egg. Does that help you work it out?

THANK YOU SO MUCH !!! ( I'm also off to check ear lobes !)

Do you happen to know what breed any of them are ? Or are they all the cat equivalent of moggies ?

I've tried to take better pics but they don't stay still for long !

we used to have a black hen and an orange one (cant remember which breeds) and the black one laid much darker shelled eggs. We then got a mainly white hen who laid really pale shelled eggs, so assumed it was based on their feather colouring but that could have just been ours?!

My ex keeps chickens so I'll ask him!

From your first picture I showed him he said the breeds look like
Top left - Russet Blue (blue egg)
Top right - Warren (light egg)
Black - Rhode Rock (dark egg)
