Prolapse

Hi, one of our lovely girls has got a prolapse. I don't know how old she is exactly but I think quite young. She's had it on and off for a week or so but it's out all the time now and the feathers are becoming matted around it. She gets picked on by the other two quite a bit already so

I'm moving her into the house in the chicken carrier for a few days to help her heal.
I'm going to wash her bum off and push it back in- I've read that using haemorrhoid cream can help- is that true? I've got some and some tcp but I'm not sure whether to use one or both?

I can go to the shops tomorrow if I need anything urgently.

I'm planning on keeping her as quiet as possible over the next few days and feeding only corn- is this the right thing to do?

Our poor girl- she's my daughters favourite of the 3 too!

Right I've cleaned her off with warm water, then I put some anusol on it. I gently pushed it back in (I had a glove on!) it came back out twice and with that came some poo so I wonder if the poo was stuck in there?

Third time was the charm and it stayed in. I've put her in the pet carrier for the night and will give her corn and water tomorrow morning. I'm hoping I've done enough! I'm planning on keeping her in for three days. However if she lays an egg and it comes back out I'm worried I will have to keep her in longer?

I would take her to vet ASAP. It can’t be nice for her and taking her away from the others will make them pick on her more.

How is she doing?

Thanks for asking, she's recovered really well, it's been about 5 days since I had to put it back in, she's laid an egg since then and that was fine. She spent another 36 hours in the house after that and rejoined the flock on Saturday. I supervised the reintegration and we moved their run around and added extra feeding stations and water stations to distract them from turning on her- and it worked!

I'm checking her twice a day and she seems totally unfazed by it all! If anything she has become super tame and follows my daughter around and likes being handled a lot more than previously!

I know it's likely to happen again so I will be doing everything I can to monitor her and prevent it. So so relieved!

Good news! Well done on treating her and I like the distracion idea.
