Dc picked up chicken by the tail

I know, I know, I should have been keeping a closer eye on him. He’s 2 and I was hanging up washing while he was playing with his bike. Then I hear lots of squawking and follow the noise to see 2 yo ds holding one of our poor hens by the tail at about his shoulder height and she she desperately running with her legs in the air and flapping her wings. He let go when he spotted me and chicken landed on her feet, gave herself a shake and trotted off. This was about an hour ago. She seems totally fine now, is running about with the others and is eating and drinking.

Ds has obviously been spoken to and I’ll keep the chickens locked in while he’s in the garden in the future. Could he have damaged her in anyway? I can’t seem to find much online about injury to chicken tails. She’s a 18 month old generic red chicken. Any advice appreciated 🐔🐣

Op sorry but your woes made me laugh, poor chicken, I believe they are quite robust ime. Ddog got into ours when we had some, did a run up and swerved them at the last minute! My heart was racing but they hardly flinched! Ddog was severely admonished. Maybe more supervision and encourage dc to cuddle it to say sorry, make it's feelings count to him.

Poor chook will almost certainly be fine, did she lose any feathers? If not then all is well (and she'll probably teach the others to avoid DS!).

It’s unlikely he’s done any damage Smile you’re right to keep an eye on him in future though - it would have been horribly stressful for the hen.
Sad to see that PP think an animal’s distress is amusing. Wonder if the response would have been the same if he’s grabbed a kitten or puppy by it’s tail?

The way the op told the tale was amusing not the actual incident.
Sorry you have no sense of humour.

Oh yeah, the OP was totally posting for a humour response rather than reassurance about something that concerned her. Or not.

Sorry you have no sense of humour.
And thanks for the apology but i’m Pretty comfortable with my humour not including Animal distress - if you discount all other humour as ‘none’ I suspect that you have bigger problems than I do
