Has Dorothy been eaten by a fox?

Got up this morning to find that one of our lovely girls is missing, we have three. No sign of her anywhere. She has escaped once before so I was hopeful that this has just happened again.

Anyway, we think a fox may have got her as there are a few more feathers than usual in their bed (not the actual coop - their bed with straw) The two other girls aren't shaken up at all and there are no feathers in the garden and there is no body.

We have been out to look for her but there is no sign of her.

I am really upset and have absolutely no idea how a fox could have got in. I know we will probably have to keep the girls in now.

Does it sound like a fox has got her? Just wondering whether we should give up hope and searching for her.

Thank you!

Did she turn up in the end?

I would be very surprised to hear of a fox having got in and not killed or maimed most of them. They don’t often leave live chickens behind, preferring to kill them all and take the one they want to eat. I think if you’re not seeing an obvious chicken massacre it’s more likely that either she’s disappeared off on her own accord, or possibly that she died at some point and has since been taken by some opportunist animal passing by.

It doesn't sound like a fox. There would be more/some evidence if a fox had taken her. (I work with foxes).

It sounds much more likely that she's escaped again I think, although something may have sadly happened to her after that. Or maybe she's found a warm cosy place to hole up in?
