Hello, I've just 'inherited' four hens. Two look in good health and two look awful which I think is linked to moulting. They've only been laying one egg a day between them for the last two months.
So, what's a good pick me up to give them? Any good health boosters?
Also, what should I be treating them for in terms if mite etc?
TIA

Firstly, I would make sure they are wormed (fluvenvet) and douse them & their bedding in DE (diatomaceous earth) to get rid of red mite. Scrub their house out and then spray with a red mite spray ( I use SMITE). jeyes fluid is also effective, but don't let chickens back in until fully dry.

Give them a cat litter tray or shallow bucket full of play sand and a bit of soil and a liberal sprinkling of DE mixed through for a dust bath.

A general vitamin tonic -like nettex vitamin tonic once a month in their drinking water can help.

As can Probiotics - either from the vet or give them some plain yoghurt with corn mixed in.

Also, cider vinegar mixed in with their water can help.

Get a quality feed and get them a few treats ( e.g. vegetables) to keep them interested and happy.

They might also just be getting on in years, and slowing down a bit!
