They've hatched! - Newborn chicks advice

We put 6 fertilised cream legbar eggs under our broody hen 3 weeks ago, she was a bit hit and miss staying on them ( sometimes in the wrong nest box etc) so really weren't expecting them to hatch!
Yesterday got a shock to see her sitting in the run with 4 lovely chicks, so promptly got chick crumb/ water feeder and a pet crate for them to go in rather than the nest box where the others might sit on them / fall out. Then got worried in the middle of the night they might get cold, so they are now in the kitchen!
How worried to I need to be about temperature at this time of year? I know mother hen will sit on them to keep them warm, but are they ok in a pet crate in the run or should they be inside / a shed? Whenever we come close she is obv v protective and sits on them/ tries to peck us - do we need it handle them/ check on them or leave her to it?
Many thanks....

No just leave her alone, she knows what she is doing. She doesn't need to be inside, in fact she is better put with the others but kept separate so the others don't attack the chicks. Make sure there is netting over their run so birds of prey can't pick them off. Make sure the chicks are out on clean grass and the water tray isn't too deep for them to fall in, a rock or stone in the water is good for them to help climb out. Our last batch have just hatched too!!
Good luck and enjoy them, they grow so fast!!!!

Thanks pepperpot Smile that's fantastic advice - most of the info I'd come across on the internet was for chicks in an incubator who seem to need to be kept super hot!
Many thanks and enjoy yours too - we all have been fascinated just watching them today!

Our first chicks were from an incubator and we cooked them alive in less than 24 hrs..oops. mother hen knows best and she is the perfect protector/heater.

Thanks again pepperpot - they are back outside in their own section of the run and seem to be thriving... Amazing watching how she does indeed seem to know what she's doing, can see where the phrase " mother hen" comes from now!
