Should I phone the nursery with my concern?

Ffs typed out my post and then lost it!

DD turned 3 yesterday and will be starting nursery in September. Yesterday was also 'new parents evening' where we could go and look round, meet her teacher etc. we were over the moon with the nursery, it's wonderful, there's so much to do and the outside play area is fantastic.

The HT gave an introduction talk all about what they do, where they go on trips and told us about the different people that visit throughout the year to do fun things with the children. One of the things they do, is hatch chicks every year. This is my concern, when we went outside to look around, we came across this years chicks. Two chickens and duck. They aren't adults yet judging by their size, but they are in a run like this. All 3 of them. Surely this is far too small? The dimensions of this one are L 98cm x H 41.2cm x W 49cm Approx and the one at the nursery was probably the same size but much tattier like it's been in use for quite a few years. And where are all the chickens they've hatched over the years? They certainly weren't there.

This has been on my mind since last night and I'm really thinking I should ring them with my concerns.

That does seem very small, I wouldn't even want to keep one in there let alone three. It is a long time until september if you think the poor things are going to be staying in there. I suppose a quick phone call wouldn't hurt to put your mind at rest, hopefully they were just in there temporarily so the children could pet them or something.

As for last year's chicks. I'm not really sure how that works. I have vague memories from when my mum was a school caretaker of some scheme where the eggs and incubator were 'borrowed' from a farmer and then all sent back when hatched so the school doesn't have to be responsible for getting rid of resulting chicks. Perhaps someone else knows if I've got this right?
