Anyone use rubber chippings on the run floor?

At the moment I have a WIR attached to my Cube. The run is covered with a tarpaulin so it is fairly dry. It is just soil and a few wood chippings. I'm dealing with a worm problem at the moment and read that bare soil was the worst(or best if you're a worm) possible scenario for worms.

So i was wondering about covering the ground with a mesh membrane and putting rubber chippings down. A few reviews I read were very bad, but these seemed to be people who had put rubber on top of soil with no weed proof membrane. Does anyone have any experience of rubber? Or would it be better to put the membrane down and the use wood chippings? The soil is a pita.

I've just ordered underlay and rubber chippings to try. So no idea, as yet, but wanted to bump up for you (and would also be interested in other replies)

I thought about it but I'm not sure how tough the mesh membrane would be. My girls seem to be able to dig through very hard ground with the greatest of ease so if you mean the weed proof membrane that you get at garden centres and the like, I can't imagine it will last very long at all.

this stuff is really good btw if you are struggling with worms. Keeps smells and flies to a minimum in the summer too.

DH uses rubber chippings for the hens now and loves them.

What are the advantages of the rubber chippings then? :)
