How to rehome chickens?

Hello,

We used to have three chickens and there was a really friendly one and she brought the other two out of their shells and they were fun and productive.

Then the friendly one sadly died and the other two retreated so I got a couple of chicks to hand rear, expecting them to be really friendly.

Well, they aren't and now I'm left with four unfriendly chickens and get very little pleasure out of them compared to the mess they make.

I want to get rid of them but I don't want them being eaten. I want them to be happy pets. They are used to being garden free ranged during the day and locked away securely at night.

Two are nearly four years old and lay a little bit over summer. The other two are one year old and good layers even during winter. They are all different colours and pretty in their own ways.

How do I go about rehoming them without fearing that they'll be for the chop? I want them living out their full lifespan happily.

Thanks xx

Whereabouts are you? I've used preloved to rehome hens before. I usually ask for at least £5 to make sure it's someone who will look after them and isn't just taking them because they're free, but rarely actually take the money if that makes sense! If you're in Suffolk or Wiltshire I can help with a home for them

Depending on where you are, I'm happy to have them join my ladies! I have had chooks for 6 years now.

Oh, well I'm about 30 mins north of Derby and would happily drive for 90 mins to get them to the right home.

I might add that one of the older girls has deformed feet. I think they must have been broken when I got her but I didn't know to check and over time they've twisted. She seems ok though, just a bit slow.

That's a good idea about advertising a little bit just so they aren't cheaper than a Tesco bird xx
