the coop and run are ready so now all I need is food, bedding, basics for care and chickens!
in terms of bedding can I use the Liverpool wood pellets bedding I get for the horses? and can I use hay if its been steamed so doesn't have dust spores?
any help greatfully received

I'll be honest, I'm not sure. I use bedding which specifically says it's ok for chickens. Sorry that's no use at all is it?

Hay is best avoided as it gets damp from their droppings. Either shavings or one of the hemp based products is best, something like nedz bed pro. Pellets are ok but not so comfortable underfoot. For the next box area you can use the same as the rat if the coop or add some straw.

When are the hens arriving? Exciting times!

I can activate the pellets like I do in the stables so it will be soft but in summer can get dusty? Actually I can get large shavings or stuff from local feed supplier, and some of the easy bed stuff I've seen is good stuff. I'll get a bail of straw as well it's not expensive. Tomorrow should be the day! They've got rhode rocks. Speckledys. BaBarred rocks. Bluebells. Light sussex. White stars. Red stars. I'm thinking of getting 5 but not sure which yet!

I can really recommend aubiose or anything hemp based clumps well so is easy to clean and composts much quicker then shavings, used it for my horses and chickens.
