The Effing Fox..

.. has had my whole flock. During the day as well, audacious b*stard.

In ten years of keeping chucks, never lost a single one to a fox, until now and then four in one hit. I lost two recently to illness, I'm just relieved for them now that they went that way and not via the fox.

Gutted. Sad. Angry.

Oh no, that's terrible :(

Did he leave them for you to find?

EstoyAqui · 10/06/2013 17:40

Sad it's depressing when they are taken like this. Our last singleton was killed in the middle of the day in front of me. I was in the kitchen and out don't get out fast enough.

I do think foxes are getting bolder.

don't = couldn't

No, haven't found the bodies yet, just loads and loads of feathers.

HOWEVER, it seems one escaped. My neighbour six houses away has my bantam in his garden - just phoned a few minutes ago!! So, going round shortly to see if I can catch her (fat chance!) but even if I can, she is all on her own, and the fox knows where she lives. Goodness only knows how she escaped, she is tiny and the fence is oh so high!

Buggers. The lot of them.

Quick name change as too identifiable and don't want to be outed on other topics.

I now how you feel, but why do I feel sad when I have seen 4 dead foxes, clearly very young on the of side of the road this week alone?

I lost 10 in Feb, no trace, no heads, no feet, just lots of feathers and again 2 months later, my new 8, this time 2 headless bodies left. One lone magpie chook appeared the next day but she was so shell shocked and with a broken wing and with teeth puncture marks on her back, I'm afraid I left the coop open and let the greedy bastard take her, which he did within hours. I couldn't despatch her as I have an injured shoulder so couldn't do it cleanly and DH is a wimp.

They have free ranged for 5 years with no problem. We are rural with 200 foot gardens but there is fox and cubs next door, and has been for years, but they have stayed away from us , maybe because of our fearsome Burmese cat!

I am looking at putting in electric fencing and have a man coming shortly to look at enclosing an area 30 x 30 on the back of my existing aviary, as I have a new flock of 7, jus starting to lay tiny eggs too!

DH says the eggs are costing around £100 each! Bt I do love going down to see them and hear their gentle murmuring and then they get excited when they see me too!

I don't feel in the least bit sad when I see dead foxes - sorry ftf! we lose some every year. the buzzards sometimes take the odd chick or really old one but he who cannot be named just kills everything. if he only took one at a time then I would have more sympathy but one night we lost all 48 and the DC's were heartbroken. Its a constant battle to keep them safe and let them roam and do what they do.

fukthefox · 12/06/2013 17:53

Gosh 48! I was told that no way could a fox take 10 in one go, but he did and then back just weeks later for 8 new ones.

The man came and did an estimate, but £1600 is going to take a long time to payback in eggs, unless I get more hens!
