Help - sick hen!

I noticed she was limping a little yesterday but it was almost dark so I didn't get a proper look. Today she came out of the cube very awkwardly and can walk but its obviously horrid for her and she just sat down again in the run, and then came out for some corn but when I looked out again she was just sitting on the ground (cold!) so I've caught her and put her in a straw-filled box in the kitchen.

I don't think its her leg, though. Her breast is red raw from her breast bone down.

Any ideas?

I'm keeping her in tonight. Will see how she is in the morning and maybe let her have a peck around the garden.

Mites or lice could cause the sore looking skin.

Limping could be bumble foot or possibly scaly leg mite.

Her feet look fine... at the moment. I will keep a close eye.

I thought about lice but no sign of any lice/eggs or suchlike in the eglu cube and I check every time I clean it.

There is obviously something wrong though.

She's up and about today, and back with the flock.

Just keep an eye on her because she may get bullied if she is poorly. Hope she stays well.

Blow around the vent/bum area. This should raise the feathers and you should be able to see lice if they are there. Red mites live in the house, rather than the chicken and you could wipe a white cloth/tissue round the house at night and you should be able to see red on the cloth.
Hold her closely to you and listen to her breathing and check it isn't raspy or rattly. Hope that's a bit of a help and your chuck is fine :)
