myoplasma?

Think my girls have myoplasma! I have four chickens, two of which I bought 3 months ago roughly. One of the new ones i noticed had a watery/frothy eye and it started sneezing. It cleared up and now seems fine. Both are broody but not sneezing any more. Now though one of my older girls has got the sneezes really bad, her comb is floppy and her breathing is rattly. I have read loads about antibiotics etc.... really don't know what to do as many of them aren't licienced for poultry and you can't eat the eggs again (and not sure i would want to risk it with the kids etc).

So the dilemma is do I wait and see if she gets better like the others did (they were much milder.....didn't really realise they were ill). I have read about treating it with Colloidal Silver which is a natural antibiotic. Has anyone else used this? I know it sounds terrible but I don't want to spend a fortune at the vets when we keep them for their eggs but obviously don't want her to suffer. She is walking around fine and eating etc. Tonight I went up and gave them some of the poultry drops and little bits of garlic as have read that will boast their immune systems.

I am so cross that the new ones bought in a disease! They cost a fortune and were from a proper chicken breeder. My speckly Sussex seems ok at the moment and is still laying.....will be so upset if she gets poorly as she is so tame and a great pet and lays wonderful eggs. Advice please!!

The best AB for myco is Tylan and it is licensed. From memory there is no withdrawal period for eggs. You need to manage myco once you have it, you can boost their immunse systems with ACV and garlic/mineral supplements but I would treat with ABsif you want to give her the best chance of survival.

Watch out, I had mycoplasma pneumonia myself, twice as a kid, missed quite a few weeks of school. Be careful with your hygiene ( I'm sure you are anyway ).

gET some Tylan, am sure it saved my flock. Mine went downhill rapidly. I had a few sneezing, one slightly more so and with a bubbly eye. Then bubbly eye one was dead, the others were rattly. I raced down the vet who gave me Tylan but wasn't very optimistic. They all pulled through.

Thanks everyone, they seem much better today....will call the vet tomorrow. Wigglybeezer apparently humans can't catch this strain. x
