What to do with a newly hatched chick?

We're 'egg sitting' for our neighbours who are away for the long weekend - due back late tomorrow. One of the eggs has hatched a bit earlier than expected, so we now have a little chick in amongst all the eggs. Our neighbour said to leave any newly hatched ones in the incubator, but I would like some reassurance that it will be okay to leave it for that long (36 hours+) - or do we have to move the chick to the box with the other baby chicks (both about 10 days old). I don't have a clue and hope there's some experts out there to help!

leave it with the eggs, dont put it in with the older ones whatever you do, give it some crumb and water in a bottle top or something.

We move our newly hatched chicks into a small blow-up paddling pool and suspend a heat lamp above it. If they sit with their wings out it is too hot and the light needs to be higher or if they huddle and look miserable, lamp needs to be lowered a bit.
They need a shallow drinking dish of water plus chick crumbs. I also put the heads of feather dusters in as mother hens. Blush

What is the other box with the 10 day old chicks?

The older chicks are in a box on top of the Aga in neighbour's house. We've kept their food and water up, but otherwise not had to do anything for them.

Don't open the incubator as you will alter the humidity. Leve the chick in with the other eggs - it will bubble about quite happily as it has yolk inside it's tum that will sustain it. Do not put water in, as chicks can drown. I tend to put a jam jar lid of water in my chick area with marbles in so they can't drown

There is a chance that the older chicks would attack and kill the new chick.

I think it would be fairly hot on top of an Aga. Is there any way you could set up two nursery areas - Asda pools are £3 and easier to keep clean. Good hygiene is essential to prevent coccidiosis etc.
Heat lamps are quite pricey.

The yolk will sustain the chick for the first 48 hours, and it's standard practice to leave them in the incubator until they're fully dry and fluffy anyway.

If you do give it some water, then make sure that you take water out of the bit of the incubator that normally supplies water for humidity (can't remember the name!) to compensate, else it will become too humid in there.
