i am considering getting a couple of chickens but am being mocked by my husband and son as they say our 2 cats will eat/kill the chickens - has anyone any experience of cats and chickens together

We have 2 silkies and 2 cats, one of whom is a big 16lb tom. They co-exist happily and never take a blind bit of notice of each other. Mine are free range 7am til 7pm in my smallish urban garden.

I have three ex-battery chickens and two cats and the cats are scared of the chickens.

I let them roam around the garden and some of the neighbours cats have shown an interest including a huge un-neutered tom, but they're all too scared to make their move, chickens are quite big really and behave like little dinosaurs.

Entertaining pet, but they poop a lot so make sure you section of a bit of your garden.

My cat used to stand in the middle when I gave them treats. One trod on his toe once but otherwise - he would like to sit and watch them but would never dream of attacking one.

We do have a large tom who I was quite worried about until I saw him running away with two angry chickens on his tail. They are a match for cats!

no worries at all.
our 2 hens kept the local cats out of our garden, hens now have a fenced off area in the front (from about 10 days ago) and cats have already taken over my back garden - grrr

My two cats are both scared of my chickens Grin

Our cat is a huge ginger tom and regularly brings in whole rabbits during the summer. However, he's terrified of some of the chickens, and actively avoids all of them, even the smallest bantams. The chickens have got used to him too, they make a special 'cat' warning noise when they see other cats, but seem to just accept ours as one of their flock.

We have five cats and five hens and apart from the youngest cat they leave each other alone. This cat will run at the hens sometimes - they will run back at her most times though - and also fights them for food scraps, stale bread and all. No real upsets at all.

Hens are big, fast and strong and (obviously) can flap and lift off the ground which our cats really don't like.

I lived in a house with 6 cats and 13 hens. The first time the cats got too close they got a peck between the eyes. They didn't do it again. After a while they just seemed to live in parallel universes and ignore each other.
