You can get a little poo-picker trowel and put it in compost/on your roses - that's the solid ones. But the 'chicken korma' monstrosities will have to be hosed into the lawn. But your lawn - having them pick out the moss and fertilise it - will be fab!

i use an old fire shovel and a stick.
put the shovel by the poo, flick it on to the shovel with the stick.

straight onto compost heap.

ah, now, with the coecal ones (the chicken korma ones! Grin ), i sprinkle a bit of soil on them and then scoop as normal.
it does help.

Dustpan and brush, then hose area down with water and spray with Jeyes fluid or sprinkle Stalosan down in the run area. Rinse dustpan and brush last thing so it's fresh for the next day.

Ive just had the family round this weekend to see the hens having had them a few weeks and it was really embarrassing as our garden is now covered in poo! I swept the path but people walked on the lawn where I hadn't poo picked and they all got it on their shoes :(

I was starting to think I'll have to keep them in their run all the time but will instead use the tips above :)

midori1999 · 28/03/2011 16:55

I let my dogs out in the garden/run. Grin They clear it up in no time.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 28/03/2011 17:00

I use a dust pan and brush, and water in the curry poos. I am the insane woman who can be seen sweeping her lawn.

MollieO · 28/03/2011 17:25

What do you use to clean your dustpan and brush?

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 28/03/2011 18:47

Erm, I don't. The rain rinses it every now and again, and occassionally it gets dipped in disinfectant when I'm scrubbing out the house

Gently · 28/03/2011 18:49

I wait for it to rain, it does a great job of lawn cleaning. And I take my boots off before entering my house.

nickelbabyhatcher · 29/03/2011 12:35

you don't need to clean your poo pan! Grin
Just prop it up against the wall, and the rain does the rest!

Grockle · 29/03/2011 21:25

Oh, I feel like such a slattern... I don't clean up the poo Shock

nickelbabyhatcher · 30/03/2011 12:04

don't you??? Shock

it's the only way you can stop the run turning into a disgusting smelly mess!
(believe me, it takes 3 minutes every day and saves you hours of work!)
Grin

nickelbabyhatcher · 30/03/2011 12:05

(disclaimer - i do not apply this same logic to housework - that can wait! Grin )

ilovemyhens · 30/03/2011 17:01

I just hose my dustpan and brush down with water. We have the hose permanently attached in the back garden, so I just use it to hose everything down each evening.

Grockle · 30/03/2011 19:45

I just poo-picked Grin

We power-hosed the patio at the weekend and discovered it is red, not brown so I though poo-picking might help it stay that way. Plus it s embarrassing when people come over and the garden smell gross. Why is chicken poo so smelly?

nickelbabyhatcher · 31/03/2011 15:52

because it's poo .
i don't notice the smell because I don't let it stay there!
