When do I separate my (all grown up) chicks from their mama <sad>?

When do I need to separate them all? I have two girls and a boy still living in the same house as their mama (they were hatched naturaslly by her). However time is ticking on and they're about 10 weeks old .

I know I need to separate them, but they're all so snuggly at night together, and it seems too cold. When is crunch time?

Plus - if anyone would like a dark brahma boy then let me know Grin.

4 weeks - when they have their feathers and don't need her for heat is the normal time.

You need the get the cockerel out before his "voice breaks" and he tried to mate with his mother Wink.

You don't need to take the pullets away at all.

Oh god what a horrible thought! They are unrelated fortunately, but even so.

Gawd only what I'm going to do with the cockerel - time for a Practical Poultry lonely hearts ad I think :o

Eat him when he gets big enough - you will have to do some serious fattening to get him to a decent weight, though!

Noooooo I can't do that (or could I :o)?

Where do you take them to get humanely slaughtered?

Round here my dh does the dirty deed.

They do taste much nicer - more gamely than a shop table bird. What breed are they?

They're brahmas MMB.

So not very heavy, then = not much meat but ok for soup or curry?
