Bloody cockerel!!

Arrived home at dinnertime to find a trail of destruction. Went upstairs and there it was bold as brass strutting around the bedroom!

Had a right tussle trying to get it out.

Now if it was a friday night I would have started some kind of cock/bedroom smutty thread, but it's a bit early in the week for that Grin

Grin

Glad I've caught you... I saw you on the thread about where folk live. I'm in the process (sofa and table have just gone!) of moving to your town.

Any good 'local' tips?

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 11/08/2010 13:27

Grin I have a small hen who likes to sneak in and hide behind the curtains. She gives herself away by bok-ARKing if you get food out of the cupboard/fridge.

sorky · 11/08/2010 13:35

They come in the cat flap!?!

SHIT!

bramblebooks · 11/08/2010 14:28

pmsl. sorry. My new three have just done a mass breakout fronm the eglu hatch when I tried to get father jack out to muzzle her because she's been biting mrs doyle's bum.

My friend has a flock of 30 wyandotte bantams. They also come in through the catflap which, thankfully, is a sealed large porch. They come for catfood.

Millie1 · 11/08/2010 15:10

LOL ... sorry, but that's too funny Grin. You poor thing!

saltyseadog · 11/08/2010 17:40

LOL :o

Also loving 'get father jack out to muzzle her because she's been biting mrs doyle's bum.'

accidentalchickenkeeper · 11/08/2010 22:19

Yep the cat flap! One tried to fly in through the kitchen window last week (we live in a 3 story house and the kitchen is on the 2nd floor)
They are determined to take over the house Grin

As my name suggests I never wanted the feathery little buggers in the first place really. The mother hen sought refuge in our barn and hatched her eggs there, 2 cockerels and 2 hens. Not content with squatters rights to our garden - they've got their beady little eyes on the house!

Welcome to the area, shockers Smile
You'll love it. Great schools, great pubs and a posh new Booths Grin

Local tips. Hmm... Wallings at Cockerham does great ice-cream, Scorton picnic area is a lovely walk, New Holly Farm is great for the kids, Louisa John is the best hairdressers in the area (imo), The Royal Oak does great sandwiches for a pub lunch.

Some great playgroups/ nurseries too ... how old are your DCs?

Just been back to the "What's great about where you live" thread. I see your DS is 10 too. DS1 goes to a school about 4 miles away from Garstang.

I shall lurk near the nice ham in booths and wait for you to find me!

Thanks!

I'm glad you included a hairdresser in there.

I'll bet if your DS plays football for school, they will have played against each other. DS has been at school there for a year because it's taken forever to do up the house (and it's only little Blush). He's been commuting with his Dad.

My two like the dipping oils bit in Booths... so do I Grin. If I'm not by the ham, I'll be the one with my mouth full and two 'lively' children.

I'm really looking forward to exploring more once we're settled. I think I'm going to love it there. DS has had parties and sleepovers to go to almost every weekend so he's a local already. I love it that he's settled in so well.

We're thinking of chickens too... I was checking out the recycled coops at the show last week. We hatched two at school last term and the head took them home. I'm in line for the next batch.

Which vet do you use?

shockers · 12/08/2010 09:39

Oh... DD is 11 but has SN so she will carry on at her special school about 30 mins away. She's settled there and has lots of friends.

accidentalchickenkeeper · 12/08/2010 11:07

Er.. we dont have a vet Blush We let them fend for themselves!

That's lovely that your DCs have settled so well. DS1 will start playing football for school this year, he also wants to join an out-of-school-club so I'm thinking Myerscough or Cockerham Juniors.

Re Booths: I'll be the one looking like I've been dragged through a hedge shouting "John put that down/ put your willy away / don't do that " (John is DS2 btw, the 10 year old is a bit better behaved!)

OP posts:
shockers · 12/08/2010 12:14

Hehe... DS's name is John based so that could well be me (apart from the willy bit, we've managed to stop him doing that now Grin)

We have an elderly dog...I don't think the rest of our animals have ever been to the vet either.

Someone recommended Cockerham to us. Apparently Myerscough have signed all their players. They start 11-a-side this year so places are tight. DS wanted to stay at his old team for the time ,which isn't a problem as it's nice to catch up with the other parents and have a natter watch the game.
