Can I wait before getting GAP insurance on a PCP car?

Whats the verdict?
Am loving my new car (PCP financed)
Car insurance states " New vehicle replacement: If your vehicle is less than 12 months old and it's written off or stolen and unrecovered, we'll provide you with a brand-new vehicle as a replacement"
Can I hold off getting GAP insurance right now and look again at in in 6-12 months time?
I'll happily hear all advice/horror stories/recommendations - Thanks all

What would be the point? GAP insurance fills the ‘gap’ between cost new and value of the car at thetime of write off. This can be several thousand pounds.

The whole point of gap insurance is to cover the depreciation immediately.

I had gap insurance with the dealership back in the early 00's, the car got written off and I was left with £500 to pay!

I've got gap insurance for the duration of the lease - the cost saving of delaying it a year wasn't enough for it to be really worthwhile.

One of our neighbours told me a cautionary tale recently - her brother died suddenly in January. He had recently taken a (pricey, sporty) new car on PCP which he'd only had a couple of months before dying. My neighbours nephew cancelled the PCP and sent the car back without realising about the massive depreciation/potential gap (he just wanted to do something helpful to help his Mum out with the admin and stress) and the estate is now liable for the gap in finances. They'd have been (financially) better off keeping hold of the car for the length of the lease than having to stump up for the depreciated value of the car. I believe that some gap insurance policies would cover this too.
