Anyone else noticed road repairs only last a few months lately?
There’s a petition about making them last longer if anyone’s interested

Petition: Require contractors to guarantee all roadworks for 2 years

I call on the UK Government to require a two-year guarantee on all roadworks by contractors and utility companies. Any defects such as sinking, cracking or potholes within that period must be repaired at their expense to protect taxpayers and improve s...

My local authority have said that over the winter, and as a short term fix for reported pot holes they use a temporary patching technique. They have a rolling program of full resurfacing. I'm glad to see the holes fixed, even if only temporarily. Every hole I've reported recently has been patched within 3 weeks, even on a busy junction. If the fix had to last for a longer time I suspect those quick fixes wouldn't happen. I think the roads would be in a much better state if more people actually reported the defects rather than just moaning about them.

Vehicle excise duty does not fund roads.

Would you prefer a fast repair, followed up by permanent patching/resurfacing at a slightly later date (ie when the weather/temperature is in the range for the material to cure)? Or wait up to several months for the permanent repair, meanwhile the pothole gets worse?
The first one obviously is the preferred answer.

Bloody hell, you mean councils and the Highways Agency don't already have something like this in their contracts?

The road outside our house was laid in the early 1960's. After almost 60 years, it had reached the end of its life and the council resurfaced it last summer. The new surface has been really badly done and is already breaking up.
