Range Rover evoque nightmare

Need some advice please as I’m having a nightmare. I bought a new Range Rover evoque MHEV 2022. 2 weeks ago randomly driving and the car comes up with charging fault detected and randomly stops in the middle of the road with kids in it. Had to pay for a towing service as I don’t have breakdown cover (stupid I know, just didn’t realise a 3 year old car could breakdown randomly). Taken it to a reliable garage and been told it’s a DC-DC converter fault and it’s currently on back order for 6 weeks. I am out of warranty as it ran out 6 months ago, bill to repair it is over £2k which I don’t have. I have called Land Rover and they’ve asked me to bring it for diagnostics and I’m just worried they may ask me to pay for the repairs as I’m out of warranty. I’m just so upset at myself for buying a Range Rover as I had heard about the reliability issues. Anyone been in a similar situation please? I’m also now having to pay for a car rental, car finance obviously ticking away. It’s just a lot of costs and I’m hopeless.

Sorry I can’t help but it is a pure joke that you pay so much for a car and then be hit with a 2 k repair bill through no fault of your own. I hope you get sorted

You sound a bit clueless, sorry. Cars of any age can break down. Recovery service is important if you have kids. Insurance can include optional hire car replacement. Expensive cars are expensive to repair. If you don’t want to spend a lot of money on cars buy a Ford or a Skoda

Sorry, I may have missed it - did you buy this new in 2022?

Friend had similar with a Discovery. Only 2 months out of warranty and engine blew . She negotiated hard with Land Rover and I think ended up paying half of the initial quoted price.

You will probably have to pay something, but the dealer will have some discretion.

Genuine Japanese or German next time.

If I were you I’d negotiate really hard, get it fixed and then sell it. This car is going to be a millstone round your neck. Buy something ultra reliable next time. No need to scrimp on luxury if that’s what you’re in to.

Google engine problems / Landrover they are prolific and well documented .

Sounds like a nightmare, OP. I would push Range Rover hard on this, they charge a fortune for these vehicles, and position them as premium, so they shouldn't expect this kind of things to happen so quickly.

For the future, recovery and replacement vehicle, if repairs needed, is something you can add in to your insurance (if it doesn't come as standard with the policy), and often don't add a huge amount to the cost, compared to needing to pay for these on the hoof.

"I’m just so upset at myself for buying a Range Rover as I had heard about the reliability issues."

Valuable and costly lesson here. Hard to have sympathy if you still chose to buy this car knowing that they are unreliable.

Do what you have to, to get it fixed, or bite the bullet and trade it in for a Honda/Toyota/Lexus and never buy RR products, or any Euro-junk for that matter, ever again.
