I am on a hunt for a reasonably priced car big enough to fit a family. I previously had a Range Rover evoque and have been completely put off after multiple issues after issues!! I now would like a reliable run around car that is cheap to fix if it goes wrong! has anyone got ideas on more affordable/reliable cars around the same size as the evoque? Also am open to suggestions of electric cars too. Thank you everyone 😊

Honda CRV?

MissConductUS · 19/12/2025 12:49

Anything from Subaru.

Ifailed · 19/12/2025 12:52

Do not buy a car with a wet belt.

InveterateWineDrinker · 19/12/2025 14:03

Toyota Corolla.

rumred · 19/12/2025 14:13

BMW X1 or 3 or 5 series estate. I've always found BMW to be reliable and comfortable.

Jaguar Land-rover are the worst cars ever!

Id go Honda, Volvo, Toyota.

Honda CRV?

This.

Or a RAV4, or Lexus NX.

Look at anything else at your peril. AVOID ALL the dogshit unreliable German and European tat.

HelplessSoul · 22/12/2025 14:07

Leafs are fucking shit.

Pointless if you want to travel more than 100 miles. Especially in winter. Wouldnt piss on one if it was one fire.

Awful advice.

feliciabirthgiver · 22/12/2025 14:58

Volvo XC60 or Electric Hyundai Kona have both with no issues at all.

BreakingBroken · 22/12/2025 15:02

Dh doing a deep dive on this as we are also looking; today’s interest Volvo 40, Rav 4

BareBelliedSneetch · 22/12/2025 15:03

Skoda enyaq. Good solid car. Big boot.

That's ridiculous advice, you don't really think every one of the millions of cars made in those countries is bad do you?

I had a VAG car for years with no major issues at all. But that said every car is unique so youll never know what the one you pick will be like for reliability

Id read up on actual statistics and reviews from car experts rather than rely on random anecdata that unless you buy the exact car someone else had is pretty useless for decision making

Yes and nearly all good automotive magazines and websites show how godawful and unreliable and expensive these Euro crates are.

The Toyota/Lexus/Honda cars alongside Suzuki and other Japanese brands almost always dominate reliability and satisfaction charts.

But dont let facts get in the way....

You said two specific models only out of all of the hundreds or possibly even thousands of different models available.

A quick review of reputable review sites on reliability has multiple European cars in their top tens, I didnt see a Rav4 in any of them although I may have scrolled too quickly

I'm sure the OP will heed your advice, you are clearly a mature and knowledgeable commentator on motor matters

I have had many nice cars over the years including BMW , Audi, Land Rover etc and the best car I had for the last 3 years was the Kia Sportage GT Line. Every conceivable extra and gadget. Super reliable and really nice to drive. Couldn’t fault it. Only changed as wanted to go electric
