Need a not too large and easy to park SUV - any recommendations?

I can’t sit in small cars as find them uncomfortable after a back injury years ago. I’ve had a Lexus RX400 for the last few years, lovely car but old and is now going wrong quite a bit. Looking at a Lexus NX, Kia Sportage, Volvo XC40 or similar, probably from around 2020 onwards. I’m a bit rubbish at parking so need front and rear sensors. Don’t want anything too huge, bulky or long and don’t really want to spend more than around £25K. Any recommendations? Thanks

Volvo. If you get one with a 360 degree camera, parking is a doddle.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 04/11/2025 19:34

Have a look at the Peugeot 3008.

I had a Volvo XC40 and it was great, big enough but not massive, felt safe etc

leafinthewind · 04/11/2025 19:35

Dacia Duster. You'll need top spec for all round sensors though, I think. Cheap, though.

My volvo xc40 is like an inverse tardis - it feels massive to park, sometimes parking spaces are too small to open the doors. I've got the 360 cameras, which helps, but being able to park also involves wanting to get out of the car. Maybe all suvs are like that.

Whatever you get look for a 360 degree or birds eye view camera. It makes pretty much anything easy to park. The BMW version is great on the X5.

I've a Honda CRV and don't find it to difficult with sensors and reverse camera. Totally hold my hands up to reverse parking not being my strong point.
I also find it a really reliable car and will have another.

Seat ateca with rear camera, sensors front and back plus it has a button you can press that will parallel park the car for you automatically. Also sensors will stop the car so you cannot hit anything.

I have one of these and was just about to suggest it. Lovely car to drive too

Definitely don’t. No redeeming features whatsoever.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/11/2025 20:05

I had a 2021 VW Tiguan Elegance. It was really easy to park. It had front and rear cameras, and sensors all round. It, also, parked itself if pressed a button once you’d lined yourself up next to the space. I think it’s called park pilot.

I’ve now got a Skoda Enyaq estate, which doesn’t have as many sensors, but is still easy to park.

Cluckycluck · 04/11/2025 20:08

Volvo XC40. Great car, lovely to drive and Volvos are so comfortable.

I have to disagree. Ours is great. Sorry if your experience has been different.

I've been looking at these for a while and am going to look at one at the weekend (if it hasn't sold by then!) so it's nice to hear such positive reviews.

Stick to a reliable Japanese car (not Nissan) and avoid all the dogshit unreliable and expensive to maintain European and Chinese tat.

NX, RAV4 and CR-V are your picks.

Look elsewhere at your own peril.

I have a Volvo xc40, I love it. It’s pretty easy to park but I like the idea of just being able to press a button and it does it for you.

I had the misfortune to use one for a couple of weeks. One of the worst cars I’ve ever driven. Horrible to be in, cheap nasty interior, awful driving position. Clunky, shit user interface. Slow, zero steering feel. To top it all off it’s a Peugeot so you know the build quality and reliability just isn’t there either. Overall an absolute turd of a car.

Nat172 · 05/11/2025 07:21

Jaguar F Pace with full surround cameras are fantastic.

snoopyfanaccountant · 05/11/2025 17:37

I love my Skoda Karoq. A previous car exacerbated a back issue but the Karoq is so comfortable to drive, has a big boot and easily sits 3 adults in the back. It shares a floorpan with the VW Golf so it's not huge to drive or park.

weegiemum · 05/11/2025 17:41

we have a Dacia jogger, not sure if it’s a people carrier or an SUV, somewhere in between! I can’t drive (medically!) but dh loves it, and he has an hour commute each way so spends a lot of time in it. Has sensors and a rear view camera (which he turns off 😂) but he says it’s easy to park.
