Range Rover Evoque

Hi everyone I’m hoping you can help me. So I recently have reserved on a 2014 range Rover Evoque Dynamic (2.2L manual) with 84,000 miles.

The garage are very good and have agreed to give me 3 months full MOT, full service, as well as a new windscreen.. and cam-belt change due to the higher mileage.
today I have had a message from
them saying that everything has been done ready for collection however, upon changing the cambelt they have discovered an oil leak which they will be investigating further tomorrow..
I have been a little concerned since hearing about the oil leak as I’m aware that Range Rover Evoque’s can be slightly unreliable (or so I’ve heard) not sure how true this is?
depending on how serious the oil leak is I will be deciding if I should still go for the car.. (I am very appreciative of how honest the garage have been and however serious the problem I know they will fully fix it)
id appreciate if I could have any advice on what you think I should do? I really am not in the position to be fixing things that go wrong however it’s always been a dream car of mine and this dream could finally be coming true.

id appreciate honest opinions and answers. Thank you so much everyone 😊

Petrol or diesel? Colour?

Used Land Rover Range Rover Evoque - 2011-2019 Reliability & Common Problems | What Car?

(I'm guessing it's diesel and not white. My questions were based on it being a bit of a 'hairdressers car'. There are better 2nd hand SUVs reliability-wise)

Well you've said it yourself I think - it depends on how serious it is - will it involve replacing any parts and, if so, will the garage cover that? It's a piece of string question until you know more about the reason - and extent to - the leak. I hope they have good news for you.

I'd honestly stay away from an older JLR these days. Look at some of the newer Chinese brands, you will have warranty, reliability and affordability for something much lower mileage.

The 2014 Range Rover Evoque is generally considered unreliable, with reliability surveys placing it near the bottom of its class. Common issues include electrical problems, transmission hesitation, diesel particulate filter issues, and potential engine problems from oil dilution if regular maintenance is neglected.

How is 3 month MOT good? Did you mean a full 12 month MOT? I’d run a mile from an 11 year old JLR product, it has the potential to be a very costly pain in the arse.

IsFearrCuplaFocalNaCuplaFuckAll · 29/10/2025 18:13

Step away. They are really unreliable as a brand. People make jokes when they see one working. Three months MOT is basically scrap add on an oil leak. 12 months or nothing.

put the reg in mothistory check and see how it’s fared through the years but i would never by an JLR product.

Zippedydodah · 29/10/2025 18:20

I’ve never heard of a 3 month MOT or do they mean it runs out in 3 months?
Buyer beware is very apt here; it’s 11 years old, my BIL has one that’s 6 years old and it’s the most unreliable car he’s ever owned. It’s costing him a fortune.

ItWasTheBabycham · 29/10/2025 18:21

We have one. Not as old as 2014, but honestly it is no end of trouble. If it’s not something with the car it’s the electrics, the sat nav needs updating etc. honestly, they are not worth it

I wouldn't touch it with a bargepole @OKM123 .

They're not give me 3 months full MOT,, that's what's left on the MOT. They could ask for 12 months MOT, and get them to fix the advisories.
