Which ev charger should I buy?!

Morning all :)
So, we took the plunge and bought an electric car 😱

Only thing is, I thought id just call my electric company (ovo) and get a point put in but there are so many to choose from! Should I get tethered or untethered? I have seen pod point and ohme seem to be the mains but is there anything I should be aware of? I wasn't planning on solar panels but am now thinking should I get one that connects just in case, its a minefield!

Also, should I switch to octopus energy as I keep reading they are good for ev's? Ovo are charging 14p kwh from Nov 1st, thats to charge anytime of the day, its a bolt on to plan, its separate from home bill.

Ive read so much, im frazzled so hoping someone can give me some advice as all friends that have electric cars had their chargers put in by their employers.

Tia :)

Tethered means it has a cable attached and untethered means you need to plug both ends of the cable in. So that depends on whether you have space for the cable (tethered is less messing if you have space and it won’t be in the way)

The type of charger makes almost no difference, look at the space you have (we have a Hypervolt because it fits the space) but to be honest if not a vast difference in cost I’m go with what the installer recommends and is familiar with.

Octopus are good and if either your car or charger are compatible with their intelligent octopus tariffs they are cheap, their service is pretty good too. We have had a few issues with our smart meter but they have been really good in sorting it out. (DM me if you want a referral code for them)

Octopus are 7p between 1130 and 530 which is enough to charge our large battery to 80%. And we do the laundry during that time too

damn someone already offered you the referral code !

solar not necessary

I just checked and with Octopus we pay 28.4p 05:30-23:30 and 7p 23:30-05:30 and 7p to charge provided they control when. It usually charges overnight but sometimes in the day if there’s surplus energy. You tell the app what charge level and time you need your car and it calculates a charging plan based on forcast grid demand. It’s never not been ready when we need it.

We were going to get a Hypervolt, as it reviews well, but the car dealer includes a Ohme and installation, with the car purchase, so going for that. It gets ok reviews, but the negatives are mainly around the installation, so I will have a few questions for them when the time comes.
