Reliable hatchback cars?

I currently have a SEAT Ibiza but I’m having problems with it and would like to trade it in. Does anyone have any recommendations for a reliable small/medium sized hatch back? I do have a 4 month old baby so wouldn’t be looking to get anything smaller than an Ibiza, with 5 doors.
thank you!

Honda Jazz Hybrid.

Look at anything else at your peril.

Depends if you are only after new.

I've never had a problem with Fiestas. All of my cars lasted until they were 20+ yrs and it was the floor that went every time (probably because I never washed the winter salt off).

Toyota Yaris, Corolla or Prius.
Honda Jazz or Civic
Mazda 2 or 3

Drive a few, see which one you get on best with.

What is your budget? And are you thinking a newer cheaper car or an older more expensive brand?

Rosiebun · 16/09/2025 21:07

@toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 my current car is a 2018 model, so I’m ideally looking for something slightly newer. Probably 2019/2020. Budget up to 12k

I have a ford focus, it’s reliable and economic, this is the fourth one I’ve had, they were all reliable for about 10 years each.

doggybootcamp · 16/09/2025 21:10

I love my Toyota Yaris hybrid- it’s also incredibly fuel efficient

Rosiebun · 16/09/2025 21:12

@Jellycatspyjamas do you have a newer one?

@doggybootcamp I considered a Yaris but wasn’t sure if it would be big enough for the pram etc?

Mazdas are super reliable.

camrose · 16/09/2025 21:16

I recommend an Audi Q2 if it is within your budget.

BurntBroccoli · 16/09/2025 21:17

Honda Civic.

Another Fiesta fan. I had one for 18 years and did a lot of miles in it. Completely reliable, never broke down, nothing went wrong. I looked after it.

sanityisamyth · 16/09/2025 21:22

I love Fords. Never had a problem with them. Currently got a 74 player Puma, but had a Focus before that and she was brilliant.

LyricalGangsta · 16/09/2025 21:23

Honda Jazz

ReignOfError · 16/09/2025 21:24

Another Mazda fan here. I have an older 3, and it’s been reliable, cheap to run, and a joy to drive. When I trade it, it’ll be for another.

MannequinsArePeopleToo · 16/09/2025 21:26

I had a 2010 plate Honda Jazz and traded it in for a Yaris last year. The Jazz had 12,000 miles on the clock when I got it and I'd done 135,000 miles when I traded it in.
Yaris is a '21 model and it's ok. Nowhere near roomy as the Jazz was, nor does it feel as solid. Already something went wrong with the hybrid system and it had to go back to the garage under warranty.
I wish I'd got another Jazz. Just a better car all round.

Kamek · 16/09/2025 21:28

A suzuki SX4 scross or vitara. Or a toyota yaris, verso or Rav4

notanothernamechangemother · 16/09/2025 21:33

Another vote for Mazda 3. Lovely reliable car, a joy to drive. I love mine 😍

UpHillVerySlowly · 16/09/2025 21:35

Another vote for the Jazz. Boring AF but reliable and spacious.

Stardust286 · 16/09/2025 21:36

Vw golf

mamagogo1 · 16/09/2025 21:37

Mazdas are really reliable. Not the cheapest but they come with lots of features as standard

mamagogo1 · 16/09/2025 21:37

I’m on my 5th Mazda

bungobungobungo · 16/09/2025 21:39

I’ve just been trying to find a new ( to me) car so this is great!

RedDoorBlueHouse · 16/09/2025 21:41

Honda or Toyota, reliable.

Glitchymn1 · 16/09/2025 21:49

I had a fiesta and the tracking went on both. Switched to VW Golf-touch wood never broken down, passed MOT for ten years.
