Which family car?

So we’re looking at getting a new car, around £15k, probably want something that’s 2020 plate onwards although this isn’t a must have.

We are a family of 3 plus two dogs. We currently have a 2018 plate Astra which is fine but we want an SUV type car.

Were not car people at all so don’t need something showy or flashy, we view a car purely as a means of getting us from A to B.

So far we’ve considered:

  • Vauxhall Grandland X but we’ve recently had some issues with our Astra so we’re thinking of moving away from Vauxhall
  • Nissan Qashqai
  • Nissan X Trail - most of these seem to be diesel near us and we’d like a petrol car as the city my parents live in has a CAZ
  • Kia Sportage - my favourite so far because I like how they look 😆

Things we definitely want in a car:

  • good storage for holidays
  • built in sat nav with the screen
  • air con
  • we do not want leather seats

Any got any other recommendations? Or experiences with the cars I’ve listed above?

The Kia because it has the longest warranty and, like you I like the look of it.

Skoda Karoq. It has lots of cubby holes for bits and pieces and a big boot. I have the 1 litre version and I have just done a 1600 mile driving holiday, a lot of that distance on motorway with the car fully laden, on three and a half tanks of fuel.

A colleague used to have a Nissan X-Trail and replaced it with a Sportage because she was having so many problems with it. She loves her Sportage.

If you have dogs may I recommend an estate as it’s better for their joints (if they jump to/out of the boot). Also I’d recommend an estate even if you don’t have dogs! More room inside and generally safer than an SUV.

I wouldnt touch any Nissan with a shitty stick.

You need to look at:

Toyota Rav4
Honda CR-V
Lexus NX

Buy anything else at your peril.

My husband likes the Skoda SUVs but I got so confused by them all as they all have very similar names and I couldn’t work out what was best for us 😆 I’ll add this to my list

Edited

i hate estate cars, no rational reason I just really dislike them. we don’t keep our dogs in the boot though they share the back seats.

The Karoq is roughly the same size as the Sportage.

The Kia Sportage would be the only one I would consider from your list based on reliability.

Will you be travelling with dogs and family at the same time?
I have a Škoda Karoq. It would work for dogs in boot and luggage on back seat.
We struggled with family of 4 plus Corgi. Dog sat in the middle between the kids.
A Škoda Superb estate or a Kodiaq might be more suitable.
However I love the Karoq. Kit is good, doesn’t feel massive driving it either but nice to have the higher up driving position. I have a ramp for the boot for when the dog goes in there.

Yep but just the one child so two back seats for the dogs, what we have now in the Astra which works fine. We’d put luggage in the boot.
