Is this 'too cheap', aka dodgy?

I found a car that I really like - a 2013 Aygo ICE. 95K on the clock. £1895. I checked out the MOT's previously and they were all OK until this one recently, and this has alarmed me:

  • "covers + shields fitted
  • under vehicle + all steering / suspension components corroded - vehicle heavily under sealed
Should I bin it off? If you're a mechanic or know someone who is, your opinion will be valued!

Is it a private sale or via a garage? Any come back?

It would be a no from me. It's falling apart.

It’s done 95k and is 12years old! That’s a reasonable price for a private seller! I mean of course it’s not a great car it’s done 95k miles it’s not going to be at the peak of its preformance! But nothing is with that mileage or age.

Covers and shields fitted is not an issue, a very standard advisory. The rust may or may not be, any 12 year old 95k mile car is going to have surface corrosion on components underneath. If you like it, get it inspected.

RentalWoesNotFun · 19/07/2025 22:14

I wouldn’t. Under sealing has been done to hide rust to make it pass it’s mot.

Sorry, been at bloody work. It's a garage sale.

Covers and shields fitted is absolutely nothing to worry about. This is just the MOT tester covering their backside to say that plastic covers are fitted under the car (standard fitment on most modern cars) so they’ve not been able to check underneath them. (As MOT testers are not allowed to remove anything not the car.)

Any 12 year old car is going to have corrosion underneath, just depends how bad it is. If it hasn’t been marked as excessive corrosion or dangerous, then it might not be too much to worry about.

Underseal could be a sign that someone has looked after it and is trying to to stop the corrosion getting worse.
