Ford Explorer EV - UK

We have a third child on the way so I’m looking to get a slightly bigger vehicle.

If you have a Ford Explorer EV, could you tell me if you think it would be suitable to fit 3 children in the back (8,5,baby) and also if the boot is large enough for a big pram.

Would you say this is a suitably sized family car?

Thanks

We are looking too, though only 2 kiddos.

What put me off this one was a review saying all the buttons, controls etc are haptic, not actually buttons and it’s really annoying!

We are currently narrowed down to Tesla or Kia Niro based on price, mileage range and boot size / car seat size in the rear

We lease all of ours for 2-4 years and so far had a Mokka (don’t recommend) and an Astra, which is good but also looking for a bit bigger now

We looked at the Ford Explorer, I personally didn't like the interior and felt the windscreen was kind of closed in like it felt like it was a short windscreen (if that makes sense). Are you looking for a 7 seater?

Do you want full EV or hybrid? If you have the budget, it’s worth taking a look at the Volvo XC90

I’ve got the ford explorer EV and absolutely love it

plenty of boot space (same size as the Hyundai Tuscan I had previously)
can’t comment on car seat space as my children are older but the back feels more spacious than my old car.

I would say the console takes some getting used to to as it’s like an iPad and all touch screen so a little fiddly to change the heating etc but nothing that would make me not want it!
The boit also beeps as it closes which may well annoy the neighbours early morning!

Why does lack of buttons put you off the explorer but not a Tesla which is completely screen controlled?

Why does lack of buttons put you off the explorer but not a Tesla which is completely screen controlled?

Because the haptic buttons mentioned aren’t the ones on a screen in the Ford it’s all the control stalks, sides of the wheel etc. It was mentioned in a couple of the review videos.

My Astra has a touch screen, but the centre console, wheel, stalks etc are actual buttons

The Tesla being all a screen may take getting used to as well, but the mileage range will make up for that for us.

However, all them pennies count so still considering.

@Onemoret1me
Can I ask how long you have had the Explorer? We're looking to buy an ex demo one.
We're getting rid of our Jag Pace which is lovely, but just too costly to keep repairing.

Onemoret1me · 22/07/2025 06:49

@blanketsnuggler ive had it about 4-5 months. It’s great to drive.
only downside I’ve mentioned is that the buttons are a little fiddly to use for heating/air con but you get used to it after a while.
can’t comment on reliability alert as haven’t had it long enough that anything’s gone wrong or needed repairing.
