Night vision on Car which cars models?

My corneas is permanently damaged from lasik surgery and I really struggle driving at night so don’t do it unless I have to. I see some cars do night vision but on looking up it seems just to be big Audis. Does anyone know a car where it’s ideally a small SUV which night vision even to buy as an optional extra?

Im sorry to hear about the lasting side effects from your eye surgery, that must be incredibly frustrating.

night vision does seem to be a really rare optional extra on high end luxury cars from everything I've read. Looks like Audi Mercedes and BMWs have offered it on their larger models only which doesn't fit your bill.

How are you expecting the night vision to help you, is it more from a confidence, and increased time to react lens if there's an obstruction ahead ? It won't necessarily help you see further or more clearly from what I've read and uses infrared tech to create an image based on heat signatures. It doesn't sound like it would help with seeing road layout and road signs etc more clearly in the dark.

I wonder if it's worth test driving say a secondhand audi or bmw later in the year that has this option already speccd to see how much it benefits you before you invest.

There do seem to be some aftermarket options to have this fitted independently to any vehicle and that might be worth investigating further.

Are there other car specifications that also may help you that are more common? I'm thinking automatic high beams, adaptive headlights, semi autonomous driving aids such as predictive adaptive cruise control/trsvel assist, collision avoidance systems etc. Apologies if you already have these on your current car already!

Thank so much. This is really useful and you’re right I was thinking extra confidence. I avoid driving at night but if I get caught out I want some extra features to help. This seems like a good idea test driving a second hand one in the dark. I do have some of the aids in the last paragraph but in my case would benefit from more. Thank you!

It sounds like you need to have your vision properly assessed.... Even with night vision, it wont help with mirrors or looking through side windows.

I have and I passed the driving night time vision test at the optician, still can’t see though. I have to attend the eye hospital every 4 months to check it’s not deteriorating further and glasses can’t fix it I need a cornea transplant. I struggle to see at night, anything 3d like a pavement I’m blind to. The local opticians couldn’t tell I had anything wrong with my eyes. It was only under a scan at hospital they could tell my corneas are damaged badly.
