How do you feel (physically) after a car accident?

DH and Dd2 (15) were turning right from a main road onto a secondary road when a vehicle (presumably not realising the traffic was slowing as a result of a car turning right) decided to overtake the two cars behind ours at speed, and immediately smashed into the rear right corner of our car.

It crashed about 40cm from where DD2 was sitting (seatbelt on) and spun the car round by about 180 degrees. Lots of witnesses all confirmed to police he was driving dangerously and DH was driving responsibly.

Today DD2 has told me the top of her spine hurts and her whole body is stiff and sore which she says started as soon as the car was hit, but she didn’t want to say anything because she hates fuss. She literally never complains about pain. She is autistic and I think she just doesn’t register it normally. It is really unusual for her to say anything.

Is this just how it feels? She says she can’t remember what happened at the moment of impact except the noise and being showered with glass. She can’t remember hitting her head or body but she can’t remember any of it anyway. She seems fine except a bit reluctant to move.

Should I just let her body do its thing? Is this a normal feeling after a RTA?

Thank you

I'd get checked at the hospital tbh. I've never been in a crash (thankfully) but would always say hospital when the spine is concerned

Can’t comment on if it’s normal but I would get her checked over

Get her checked either at your local walk in clinic , A&E or at least the GP tomorrow . Obviously how one feels after an accident depends on the accident and other factors like quality of car / air bags / speed / pain threshold etc , in other words it’s very individual .

You should take her to get checked out, it sounds like whiplash but possible it's something else.

Ok I might get see if she will come to the GP with me tomorrow (she hates going to anything medical). Thank you 🙂

I was rear ended by a Range Rover whilst waiting to turn right into a street. I felt immediately pain in my shoulders and back and it lasted a few weeks
get it checked out
